EditingThe ‘PEARLS’ free Radio Presentation and Production Courses used the following model:

The courses ran for three days each week (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, 11.00 am – 4.00pm) for twelve weeks, with a week’s break in the middle. The training was delivered by Women’s Radio Group in training studios at Desi Radio, 4 Sussex Road, Southall, Middlesex UB2 5EG.

The training led to Open College Network accredited qualifications, work experience and assistance in job search.

The training covered:
~ Digital editing and recording
~ Presentation and Interviewing techniques
~ How to use a radio desk
~ Making radio commercials, jingles and Public Service Announcements
~ News reading and writing
~ Participating in Internet broadcasts and showcases
~ Computer and ICT skills
Plus:
~ Support with English language (if required)
~ Assistance with travel costs (if required)
~ Assistance with childcare costs (if required)

Eligibility:
The courses were for woman who met one or more of the following criteria:
~ Black, Asian or Minority Ethnic origin
~ Single parent
~ Over 40 years’ old
~ Have a disability
~ Not in full time employment
~ Live in West London
~ Returner to work

Places were advertised on the Women’s Radio Group and Panjabi Centre websites, as well as via West London community organisations. Recruitment was by application and interview.
